I have half a Gig right now, and Ubuntu runs fine with the default configuration. Compiz-Fusion doesn't have a big effect on how much RAM you need.

It mostly depends on having a good graphics card, and my Geforce 7900 GS runs it fine.
Though sometimes my OpenGL apps lag after a while.
But since Linux isn't stupid, I can just reset Compiz without even closing any programs.

Naps,windows is for users.AND IM USER so i like windows, i dont need something that i need to re-programm evry day to work on and hope that someone with more capabilities of mine would help me.

And for those who think GNU/Linux needs re-programming it's totally false, I've been using GNU/Linux for the past 4 years and I am an Ubuntu user now and I haven't need to re-program anything, Ubuntu pretty much does that job unlike other distros.

well im veiwing this through the new version of ubuntu through windows vista if that makes sence (virtualbox) i was thinking of buying a linux book as a guid and just wanted to know if ubuntu (or fedora 10 which is also installed on my virtual box) is any good. anywho i think its time people started playing with different OS's as for me its just down to curiosity so err. message me back and is the terminal easy or is it me just being scared of it? xD

Depends on what you use the terminal for, Ubuntu and Mint should be easy enough to avoid the terminal but some tasks might require it. It's not difficult, you just need to know what to use.
And use Google alot, you are definitely not alone with whatever problem you might face.
