Mike is one of the top 5 or 10 poker players in the world in my opinion, one of the most unlucky guys ever, he's probly been involved in several pots where he was way out in front and lost costing him millions of dollars. Glad to see he has been winning a lot lately, he deserves it.

if hes a world champion caliber player he should know that those preflop allins are a complete cointoss, and the amount of times he did it that year really showed he didnt wanna play poker, just wanted to gamble.

That was the worst card for mike but it is poker and ANYTHING can happen. AA can be beat easily if the cards are right. So I think mike made the right move but he got beat fair and square. No need to moan and cry. better luck next time mike

Ya, either that or... when hes short stacked facing raises that would pot commit him after the flop, he realizes that his best play is to get his money all in when he knows he's ahead. If you want to say that he should know how to take a beat being a seasoned pro, thats fine, but you can't rightfully say that he "just wanted to gamble." That just makes you look plain stupid

i'd call it adjusting your strategy to accomodate your stack size. When you have a short stack, you have to put your chips in before the flop with a hand that you feel is ahead since you don't have enough chips to play the hand how you would when you have a larger stack. It's not gambling, its adjusting your strategy, its good poker. Dude.

it is gambling, moron; myself and countless others have come back from short stacks by not shoving in preflop; just playing right. came back from $15 turned into $500 by not doing preflop allins.
oh and by the way, if matusow is just doing such "great poker", he shouldnt be in the short stack position in the first place. and if you blame that on bad luck, you just confirmed me calling this "gambling".

wow, you came back from $15 to $500 in a cash game, this is a tournament, its different strategy. Also, mike was short stacked because of a hand where he called Greg Raymer's all in with the better hand at the time and wound up losing when Raymer made a flush after they were both all in. He made a mistake by raising with 9 7 suited and compounded his mistake by calling a raise from Raymer. Mediocre poker playing leads to mediocre endings. Mike would of never been in the position of pushing all in pre-flop with AK short stacked if he made better decisions earlier.

i find cash games i would be happy to go all in pre flop with ace king - tournaments, i try to not over play ace king - in later stages you know, if they werent going to knock me out again id go alll in - but in early stages i wont over play it
