It's a luck-based game... reason it attracts a lot of people is, anyone can hit it big once in a while... you don't need to practice hard, you don't need to make a sacrifice.. you just go and take a chance, and if it's your night you make 13 million and never again appear in a televised table. Negreanu has been losing money for two years in a row BTW... he's up for a comeback this year, as luck would have it.

1. you dont know how probability works. If you flip heads three times, you're not "up for a tails" next time.
2. it's not a luck based game. You have to evaluate odds and other players. there's a harvard professor who agrees with me here..

Ok it's not luck all the way, you'll beat the occasional newbie or inexperienced chump, but once you acquire the basic set of skills, you are set to become the next C. Moneymaker or maybe not, depending on how lucky you are.
The evaluation of odds and other players will take you to a measly few percents of increased certainty at most... after that it's all luck.

I have 2 bracelets, 2 second finish, 4 split,and 1 fourth finish at multi-table tournaments so far for about 2 years on playing on-line(more than 180 entrants)
I know I'm not a good player.
Most troubled hands I got broken with are
Ak,Aj,At,jj,qq,kk,and AA.
I just can't fold with these hands.

i dont call that luck at all, you dont play the cards you play the men.
ofcourse if i have KK and you got Aces
and a K comes out, well thats lucky i aggree
but thats part of the game.
most times its just wainting to see you chance, be patient, aggresive at the right times.

i aggree that amateurs win more then pro's but thats because there more amateurs then pro's on a tournament if you set them at a cash game like for example Jamie Gold, they get toast.

if you notice paul never said "call" he said "you talked me into it" and stood up. i read in a magazine that he did this to get a read off of jamie but then jamie flipped his hand over. paul said he just went with it cuz he didnt want to make a big deal about it.

he shouldn't have won this hand. it was in all the poker magazines at the time. Paul Wasicka was going for an 'allen cunningham' move by making the opponent think they are going to call. Paul Wasicka neva acctually said 'call' and was acctually just trying to get a reaction out of jamie gold. he didn't want to make a fuss about it though because he didn't want to cause a manic arguement, and he was happy with how he played and was happy to come second
